Magnetic response in one-dimensional mesoscopic rings: Long-range hopping in shortest path
نویسنده
چکیده
Persistent current and low-field magnetic susceptibility in single-channel normal metal rings threaded by a magnetic flux φ are investigated within the tight-binding framework considering long-range hopping of electrons in the shortest path. The higher order hopping integrals try to reduce the effect of disorder by delocalizing the energy eigenstates, and accordingly, current amplitude in disordered rings becomes comparable to that of an ordered ring. Our study of low-field magnetic susceptibility predicts that the sign of persistent currents can be mentioned precisely in mesoscopic rings with fixed number of electrons, even in the presence of impurity in the rings. For perfect rings, low-field current shows only the diamagnetic sign irrespective of the total number of electrons Ne. On the other hand, in disordered rings it exhibits the diamagnetic and paramagnetic natures for the rings with odd and even Ne respectively. PACS No.: 73.23.Ra; 73.23.-b; 71.23.-k; 73.20.Jc; 75.20.-g

متن کاملPersistent current in one-dimensional non-superconducting mesoscopic rings: effects of single hopping impurity, in-plane electric field and foreign atoms
Persistent current in one-dimensional non-superconducting mesoscopic rings threaded by a slowly varying magnetic flux φ is studied based on the tight-binding model. The behavior of the persistent current is discussed in three aspects: (a) single hopping impurity, (b) in-plane electric field and (c) in presence of some foreign atoms. متن کاملConductance of Mesoscopic Rings
In the studies of conductance of closed mesoscopic systems, semi-linear response theory (SLRT) offers a novel unified framework that goes beyond the traditional Kubo formulation. In this Thesis we apply SLRT to two types of mesoscopic systems. The first is disordered quasi-1d rings, where we build an analytical model to understand the departure of SLRT results from Kubo results. Guided by the n...
متن کاملApparent power-law behavior of conductance in disordered quasi-one-dimensional systems.
The dependence of hopping conductance on temperature and voltage for an ensemble of modestly long one-dimensional wires is studied numerically using the shortest-path algorithm. In a wide range of parameters this dependence can be approximated by a power law rather than the usual stretched-exponential form. The relation to recent experiments and prior analytical theory is discussed.
متن کاملRecovery of the persistent current induced by the electron-electron interaction in mesoscopic metallic rings
Persistent currents in mesoscopic metallic rings induced by static magnetic fields are investigated by means of a Hamiltonian which incorporates diagonal disorder and the electron-electron interaction through a Hubbard term (U). Correlations are included up to second order perturbation theory which is shown to work accurately for U of the order of the hopping integral. If disorder is not very s...
